Homework: Monday, September 19, 2016

Reading: Read the Newsela article “Little brown bats attacked by fungus while they hibernate” Try the 950 Lexile which is a 6th grade reading level. Remember, you can always level down or up depending on if it seems readable or challenging. Please read for the gist and to answer the annotations in the margins. Please do not respond to the write response or take quiz yet.

Chapter 1 Final Exam: We are reviewing and practice testing for chapter 1 test this week. We are using the online version of the practice test which is providing more practice. We are using the online version of the final test, too. This is a different style of testing and is taking longer than a standard paper-pencil test. We will be launching into chapter 2 and fractions this week and integrating more Khan Academy math in as well.

Foulks Ranch Co-Ed Flag Football

Heading this up are Mr. Shadbourne and Mr. Timmer. Students in grades 5-6 are invited. Must have a C average and good behavior record. Practice starts immediately after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and ends at 3:30.

Got questions? Please email Mr. Shadbourne at TShadbou@egusd.net

Homework: Monday, August 29, 2016

Math: Finish Standards Practice Book 1.5. It should have been mostly finished in class today.

Daily Reflection: Please complete your daily reflection on your Edublog. We will continue this practice on a daily basis.

Writing: Please complete a total of 3 introduction paragraphs for the narrative prompt we reviewed in class.

These were the directions from Google Classroom:

Write three different introductions for the following narrative prompt: Think of a time in your life where you had to do something you REALLY did not want to do. Tell the story of the experience and what you learned from it.

PLEASE review your classmates’ sample introductions. I noticed that all the intros that were posted to the Google Classroom Stream were missing a key element: You also need to “Tell the story of the experience and what you learned from it.” You might want to hint at that in the intro.

Maybe try: “It wasn’t a fun moment in my life, but I did learn a few things about myself.”

Tile Wall Legacy/Fundraiser

I’m sorry. I’m getting these forms out late.

If you’d like to leave a legacy at Foulks Ranch and paint a tile to be installed on our school’s campus AND raise money for our school garden all at the same time, PLEASE fill out the form being sent home today and return by MONDAY, AUGUST 29 with your $30 check payable to Foulks Ranch PTO.

I’ve included a photo of the image in case the form gets lost in transport from school to home.

DonorsChoose.org Project Needs Your Help

We currently have a DonorsChoose.org project online to obtain one more Chromebook.

Donors Choose is an educational crowd-funding platform that helps teachers obtain materials students need. We need to raise $267 to complete the project. The good news:

The good news: we’ve already raised $200 thanks to a $100 donation by Mrs. Jelani and a $100 matching donation by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The even better news: a $37.50 donation right now could finish the project with the help of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation matching program going on right now! 🙂

Could you please share this opportunity with friends, families, or colleagues? The link to the project is bit.ly/2bj9bWe
